Biography

Anthony Akins, Sr. possesses deep roots within the community and has long been dedicated to serving it. He is a product of the Bedford school district, having attended Carylwood Intermediate School, Heskett Middle School, and graduating from Bedford High School, Class of 1996. Mr. Akins is also a graduate of the University of Phoenix, where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Health Care Administration and an MBA.
Mr. Akins served as a councilman for Oakwood Village City for ten years, from 2009 to 2019. Additionally, he has been a member of the Bedford City Schools Parent Ambassadors, Carylwood WatchD.O.G.S., the Bedford Band and Orchestra Parents (BBOP), and has been a member of the former Superintendent Advisory Council.

During his tenure in public office in Oakwood Village,  Mr. Akins helped establish the Hawthorne Valley Youth Council, a youth group focusing on volunteerism and civic leadership through hands-on experience. He has served on the Executive Board of the Northeast Ohio City Council Association (NOCCA) as a member at-large, treasurer, and vice president. Furthermore, Mr. Akins is a former board member for Progress with Chess Cleveland and a proud member of the Delta Alpha Lambda chapter (Cleveland) of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. Among his numerous commitments, Mr. Akins is actively involved with several other volunteer and community organizations in the Cleveland area.

Anthony Akins, Sr. has always been a dynamic figure; from being a product of the school system, to serving his country in the United States Navy, to serving a a councilman in Oakwood Village and currently serving as a board member in the very same school district he graduated from. He is happily married and has five children, three who graduated from and two who are currently enrolled in the Bedford City School District, all excelling in their respective grade levels. With five children in the district, he is profoundly invested in the future of Bedford City School students and the community.
